Viola Mae (Walker) Corbett who loved to be called Mama, Grams, Grannie by her children and grandchildren, departed her loving family on August 31st, 2023, at her home in Burlington, NC. Viola was also known as “Bom-Mae" by her sisters, nieces, and nephews. Viola was born in Halifax, VA on February 11, 1946, to her mother Mrs. Annie Mae (Betts) Walker Bruce (deceased) and her father Mr. Lee Walker (deceased). Viola was an active member at Stoney Creek A.M.E Church, where she served as the Usher Board President and Class Leader President. She was also a member of the Stewardess Board, Kitchen Committee, and the Missionary Society for decades. She obtained her certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant from Alamance Technical Community College. Viola worked many years at The Village of Brookwood where she retired.
Viola was proceeded in death by her husband Mr. David Corbett. They had two children Mrs. Doris Ann Corbett (Thomas) of Burlington, NC and Mr. David Earl Corbett Jr. who proceeded her in death on February 26th, 2023.
She grew up surrounded by eleven loving siblings in Caswell County, NC - Mrs. Willie Ann Pride, (deceased), Mr. Isaiah Walker (deceased), Mr. John O. Walker (deceased), Mr. Jesse O. Walker (deceased), Mr. James Edward Walker (deceased), Mr. William Thomas Walker (deceased), Mr. Walter M. Bruce (deceased), Mr. Allen "Coolie" Bruce (deceased), Ms. Tinsey Marie Bruce of Elon, NC; Mrs. Mary Ella Bruce Wade (Nathaniel “Chuck” Wade) of Gibsonville, NC; and Ms. Gloria Jean Bruce, of Elon, NC.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories two loving grandchildren who were the joys of her life, and she often called them her children: Mr. Montiqueno A. Corbett (Bobby Harrison) of Seattle, WA and Mrs. Yasha D. Powell (Roy) of Charlotte, NC along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Viola was truly a unique and vibrant spirit who gave her all to her family, friends, and to all she encountered. She will be greatly missed, but never forgotten. Just as she let her light shine for the goodness of the Lord, we too will continue to spread love, light, and joy throughout the world in her memory. We the family would like to express our deepest gratitude to all who have provided warmth to us during this difficult time and to Viola over her lifetime. We truly appreciate all the thoughts, prayers, and support more than we can ever express.
