Mr. Terry Gene Riggins 71, transitioned on Sunday, September 26, 2021 at Cone Health – Alamance Regional Hospital in Burlington, NC. He was born to Sam Riggins and Oveta Knight Riggins on December 27, 1949 in Alamance County.
“Gunny” as he was known to his friends served his country with dignity and honor in the United States Marine Corp during the Vietnam War. During his military career he earned the esteemed rank of Gunnery Sargent.
During his career he worked in the Construction Industry as a carpenter until his health began to decline. His love for working with wood was one of his greatest past times. Often, he would spend his free time in his shop or outdoors working on some type of wood working project. He went to Glen Raven Baptist Church. He loved going to church and hen he wasn’t at church, he watched it on television. He read his Bible every night before bed. Some of his favorite scriptures were: Psalms 23: 1-6; Psalms 34: 4 and Ephesians 4: 30-32
Terry is survived by his faithful and dedicated wife Martha Blackwell Riggins of the home, sons, Samuel Riggins (Sabrina), Jason Riggins both of Alamance County; twin sister Sherry Frazier (David) of Burlington, NC; brother Dahl T Carnes (Jane) of Charlotte, NC; ten grandchildren; six great grandchildren along with a host of family and friends.
Terry was preceded in death by his parents Samuel and Oveta Riggins, daughter, Lori Jean Riggins; sister, Diane Carnes Schuelke; brothers, Ricky E. Riggins, Mike D. Riggins, Don G. Carnes, Daniel Carnes, Darryel G. Carnes, twin brothers, Dwayne and Richard Carnes; grandparents James and Scenie Riggins and George and Lula Knight Sr.
