Shirley Ann (Cooper) Riley

Mrs. Shirley Ann Cooper Riley of 309 Walker Dr. Mebane, NC transitioned peacefully at her home on July 13, 2023.  Mrs. Riley was born in Alamance County, NC on December 17, 1939, to Mr. James Cooper and Mrs. Onie Crisp Cooper.  She was educated in the Alamance County School System and graduated from Central High School.  For over 30 years she was employed with Whites Furniture in Mebane, NC.  She was married to the late Mr. Vernon Frank Riley, Sr. and together they raised six beautiful children.  Shirley was a loyal member of Hunters Chapel AME Church, where she served as an Usher, Missionary and anywhere or way she could.  She was well known for her culinary skills and her fashionable dress, especially when it came to her hats. 

Her life and legacy will be forever cherished by her children, Vernon Riley Jr. (Mary), Johnny Clifton Riley (Kathleen), James Sanders Riley, Sherry Denise Kendrick and Christopher Donnell Riley; 7 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one sister, Emma Cooper Richards; in-laws: Deacon Sterling Richards, Clyde "Tom" Miles and Sabrina Corbett; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends. 

She was preceded in death by one son, Jarrett Quinton Riley, her parents, siblings, Onie Louise Cooper Richards, Daniel Corbett, Ruby Cooper and Patricia Miles and son-in-law, Michael Kendrick.
