Shirley Jean Wright Gant was born June 24, 1940 in Alamance County to Euliss Wright and Rose Mae Lea Wright. Following a period of declining health, in the early hours of August 6, 2022 she transition from life to eternity, surrounded by her loving family within the comforts of her own home. Shirley was a 1959 graduate of the historic Jordan Sellars High School in Burlington North Carolina. While in high school she played the trombone with the band and later she became a Majorette. She was a Girl Scout and sold many cookies in her youth. For many years she was employed within the textile manufacturing industry for over 20 years with Kayser Roth Hosiery Mills and later in life she became a counselor with Ralph Scott Life Services. She found true joy in working with the mentally challenged. Shirley was a devoted wife and mother. She was married to the love of her life and her school girl crush, David Alexander Gant Sr. and this union produced four wonderful children. She enjoyed being a loving and devoted wife and mother. On October 30, 1977 Shirley became a member of Ebeneezer United Church of Christ under the leadership of Rev. Dr. C.H. Thompson. She was an active member of Missionary Circle #2.
Shirley and David shared 38 wonderful years together. Following his death in 1997, she began to travel and enjoyed several cruises, adventures in Florida, Atlantic City, New York City and Myrtle Beach. She was an immaculate seamstress as well as a great cook. Several of her dishes were highlighted during her favorite time of year, Christmas. She loved music, any type and at any time, and if prompted she could show you that she still was capable of dancing as she did in her JSHS Majorette days.
She leaves loving and lasting memories to her four children David A. Gant Jr., Daphne G. Haith and her husband Charles, Jason M. Gant and Shirlette M. Gant as well as several nieces and nephews other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents and her devoted husband, she was preceded in death by a brother Thomas Byrd better known as Butch.
