Reverend Thomas Eugene Johnson was born on May 27, 1942, in Alamance County, N.C. to the late Reverend Lacy Egbert Johnson and Mrs. Verna Cobb Johnson. He departed this life on January 6, 2023. Reverend Johnson was being cared for by his family and the caring staff of AuthoraCare of Alamance-Caswell.
“Sonny” as he was affectionately called by his family and friends, was the epitome of Christian Love. He served the Lord in Ministry for over 30 years, loving all of God’s children with a willingness to help his fellow brethren. His ministry led him to be the Founder and Pastor of The Sons of God Assembly of Jesus Christ in Burlington, N.C. Reverend Johnson led many souls to Christ through his testimony and the way he lived his life. He greeted everyone with a smile and a kind word. Reverend Johnson was a 1960 graduate of Graham High School. He graduated in 1965 from NCC University in Durham, N.C. with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry. Professionally, Reverend Johnson was employed with GlaxoSmithKline (formerly Burroughs Wellcome) as a Research Scientist and he worked many years for the Coty Division of Pfizer, Inc., in numerous capacities. During his professional tenure at GlaxoSmithKline (formerly Burroughs Wellcome) and Pizer, Inc., He participated in many ground breaking technical research studies where he was recognized in a number of publications.
The life and legacy of Reverend Thomas Eugene “Sonny” Johnson will forever be cherished by his loving and devoted wife of 57 years Mrs. Connie Teel Johnson, his four children, Tracy Johnson, Tammy Johnson, Tonia Johnson and Thomas Eugene “Tommy” Johnson Jr.; one granddaughter, Raimi Webb and one grandson, Jaylan German; one uncle, Mr. Brown Johnson, Jr. (Hattie) and a host of nieces, nephews, in-laws, other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Reverend Lacy Egbert Johnson and Mrs. Verna Cobb Johnson; siblings, Reverend Lacy Johnson, Emily Delois Johnson Kelso and Mildred Elizabell Johnson Jeffries.
