Pastor Robert Corbett Jr. Obituary

Pastor Robert Lee Corbett Jr, 53, the son of Mr. Robert Corbett Sr. and the late Mrs.Faye Corbett was born on May 21, 1970 and departed this earthly life to his heavenly reward on April 21, 2024. Robert, affectionately known as “Rob” was a native of Alamance County and was a graduate of Walter Williams High School of Burlington. He attended college at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG) in 1988, where met the two loves of his life:  Jesus Christ, his Lord and Savior and his beloved wife Melody “Marks” Corbett. Rob surrendered his life to Jesus Christ on Sunday, October 23, 1988 at Evangel Fellowship Church of God In Christ, Inc. under the preaching of the late Bishop Otis Lockett Sr. He was marvelously and radically saved, sanctified and filled with Holy Ghost. After his salvation experience Rob became active in various organizations. One of his favorite campus organizations was Deliverance Fellowship, a campus ministry for Christians that met on Monday evenings at 6:00 pm. He was a campus ministry leader and activist involved with getting by laws changed for Christian Organizations to receive appropriations of funds for their enrichment activities, trips and other needs.

He joined Evangel Fellowship Church as a freshman and was actively involved in the Outreach Department, Men’s Choir, Armor Bearer Team, College Ministry and he served as Sunday school teacher. He began to learn scriptures and shared them with conviction and clarity, as a result many souls were added to LORD’s church from his powerful preaching and ministry service on the college campus of UNCG and throughout the communities of Greensboro and Burlington, N.C. As he continued to grow in ministry service, he was responded to call of God on his life to preach the Gospel in March of 1990. He licensed to preach by the late Bishop Otis Lockett Sr., and began to be equipped, trained and refined in protocol by a plethora of leaders. He and some of his closest friends Chris Stone (Supt./Dr. Christopher A. Stone) and Harold Cone (Pastor) began to teach and preach in college. They did door to door witnessing, outreach programs, church planting events and youth rallies through Positive Direction 4 Youth to educate and empower youth adults in the Christian faith.

Rob would probably say that his greatest achievement while at UNCG was when he met Melody Marks, affectionately called “Mel” in their freshman year because he needed Philosophy 110 notes. He came to get notes from Melody and she placed a note on his notebook which stated...if you have any questions, PLEASE give me a call. He called, they started dating, married and lived a beautiful time-line of life for over 30 years meeting new friends, learning new things, and growing together in the grace of God. To their glorious marital union were born two sons; his namesake, Robert Lee Corbett, III and Zachary Mark Corbett. In 2014 under leadership and blessing of his Pastor - Dr. Christopher A. Stone, Pastor Rob and First Lady Melody Corbett founded the Lighthouse Church of God In Christ in Mebane, N.C.

One of Rob’s proudest moments of recognition was to achieve top honor in his class in Elder’s Training classed prior to receiving his Eldership ordination. Pastor Corbett attended Gospel Schools Bible College and received an Associates Degree in Theology. He became an Ebay Powerseller with more than 20,000 handbag sales globally. He always gave credit to the great mentors of his life:  Pastor Harold Cone, who shared with him the good news of gospel of Jesus Christ and helped to disciple him. Dr. Chris Stone, his spiritual twin brother and best friend. The late Bishop Otis Lockett Sr., his spiritual father. Apostle Tommy E. Quick, who he affectively called his “spiritual uncle” the founder of CFADD (Christians Fighting Against Destructive Decisions) who assigned him the CFADD Chapter President for Orange County. Bishop Patrick L. Wooden Sr., his Jurisdictional Prelate of the North Carolina 3rd Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction of the Church of God In Christ, Inc. to name a few.

Pastor Corbett served on the AIM Committee of the NC 3rd Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction.

His great loves in life were God, family, golf, fishing and good food. He loved gospel music, played the drums, studied the scriptures constantly, and many days and nights his immediate family have heard him praying and crying out to God for unsaved souls, deliverance for others and in songs of praise.

Rob leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Melody, two sons, Robert the III and Zachary, a granddaughter Gianna Corbett, his father, Robert Corbett Sr., brothers, Craig and Lamont Corbett (all of Burlington, NC) nieces, nephews, uncles and aunts. His father in law and mother in law Major and JoAnn Marks, his brother in law, Major Marks Jr.(Speedy) and family. His congregation at Lighthouse Fellowship will miss and honor him, and walk in his teachings about love, forgiveness and conquering life’s obstacles in the name of our Lord and Savior - Jesus Christ.
