Nannie Ruth (Shaw) Alston

Ms. Nannie Ruth Shaw Alston 83, of Burlington, NC transitioned peacefully on July 20, 2023 at Cone Health Alamance Regional Hospital. Nannie was born to James David Shaw and Ressie Lee Haith Shaw on May 29, 1940 in Alamance County.

Nannie graduated from Pleasant Grove Union High School. She met and wed Pearlie Alston Jr. and from this union one son was born. She traveled extensively with her husband during his military career and provided assistance and support to other military family's as needed. She had a great singing voice and loved singing at the Memorial Day Celebrations. Her outgoing spirit made her the life of party and she loved clothes and jewelry. She was considered a sharp dresser and during her quiet time she enjoyed making jewelry which she would share with her family and close friends.

She leaves to cherish her memories her son, Antonio Americus Alston, her former husband Pearlie Alston Jr.; brothers, Chester A. Shaw, James C. Shaw; sisters, Evelyn D. Jackson (Dallas); Ellvenia Campbell Shaw; grandchildren, Tarik A. Alston, Connor A. Alston along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Nannie was preceded in death by her parents James and Ressie Shaw; brothers, John A. Shaw, Willie S. Shaw, Frank Shaw, George W. Shaw, Floyd Shaw, Robert S. Shaw, Roy E. Shaw; sisters, Rosie Daye, Erma Parker, Eva Stephens and Mattie Bigelow
