Mary Elizabeth (Chaplin) Corbett

October 6, 1932 ~ June 21, 2020 (age 87)

Obituary

Mary Elizabeth Chaplin Corbett was born to Preston Chaplin and Martha Waddy Chaplin on October 6, 1932 in Chester, South Carolina. She was educated in the Alamance County School System and was employed with 1st Union Bank (Wells-Fargo).  Her vibrant career began as a janitorial engineer with the bank and eventually rose to the ranks of Courier.  Mary Elizabeth was the devoted and loving wife of Benjamin Franklin Corbett, better known as "Ben" and this union was blessed with two doting children, Donna and Ronald.

Mother Mary Elizabeth Corbett was a faithful and dedicated member of Kimes Chapel Missionary Baptist Church.  She offered her wise spiritual counsel to many organizations and departments of the church.  She was truly loved by all and in turn, she loved all.  She spearheaded the Amazing Grace Etiquette, Inc. and The B.F. Corbett Leadership Academy and served as an Honorary Board Member.

We all hold with fondness the warmth and cherished memories of Christmas.  The decorations, the vibrant colors and vivid statues all give us the knowledge and love of Christmas. Mary Elizabeth was known as the "Christmas Queen of Mebane".  She shared her home with countless visitors who were in awe of her beautifully decorated home.  She was a lover of fashion, baking cakes, flowers, decorating and being the consummate hostess.

In her own fashion and in her own unique way, Mary Elizabeth Chaplin Corbett, our Matriarch, Queen and dear friend, exchanged time for eternity on June 21, 2020, spending this father's day with her Father in Heaven her Daddy and dear and loving husband Ben.

Remembering her love and emulating her legacy are her children: Dr. Donna E. Corbett and Ronald F. Corbett (Sonia); sister: Ava Mebane (Carlton); two grandchildren: Jenna Corbett and Justin Corbett; sisters in-law: Louise Chapin and Naomi Corbett Swann brothers-in-law: Grady Poole, Joseph Corbett and Harvey Corbett; uncle Jack D. Waddy as well as several loving niece and nephews; faithful friends of West St., other relatives and dear and devoted friends.

In addition to her husband and parents, she now joins her siblings: Pauline Chaplin, James Chaplin, Preston Harold Chaplin, Patricia Chaplin Poole, Mary Jane Chaplin and Jimmy Lee Chaplin.
