A life purposed for service began in Alamance County when Flem Jesse Paylor and Claudia R. Miles Paylor were blessed with the birth of a daughter, whom they named Martha on September 25, 1941. Martha was educated in the Alamance School System and was a 1959 graduate of Pleasant Grove Union High School. Following high school, Martha aspired to attend college, however Willard A. Jones had other plans. Since the tow had dated in high school, he wanted to make it official and asked Martha to be his bride and she gladly consented. The two shared an inseparable love for 61 years and were blessed with two adoring children; Adrienne and Willard, Jr.
One could say Martha was purposed to serve. She was not only a Missionary by membership, but she demonstrated missions in her daily life. She was the owner and operator of Martha’s Family Care Home. It was here that she and Willard worked side by side caring for and showing love towards others who they felt were a blessing to them. Following the untimely death of her son, she somewhat adopted a client, Sarah Margaret Cheek, because in her words, “helping Sarah filled a void in both of our lives after our son passed.” She served Sarah with purpose until her passing on October 3, 2019.
Martha served the God of her salvation every opportunity she was given. She was a life-long member of Miles Chapel Baptist Church and served diligently as an Usher in years past, Missionary and sang with the choir. She supported her church and her pastor and encouraged others to do the same.
Remembering her kindness and devotion are: her devoted husband of 61 years Willard A. Jones, Sr.; daughter: Adrienne Jones Taylor (Kerry); two grandsons: Kerry Taylor, Jr and Tory Taylor (Sara); two great-granddaughters: Gwenevieve Taylor and Ewalena Taylor as well as several devoted nieces and nephews, other relatives and dear friends.
In the early hours of October 6, 2020 while being cared for by the staff of Cone Health Alamance Regional Medical Center, Martha Paylor Jones’ purpose on this earth was fulfilled. She truly was a servant of God and to mankind. She rests in God’s care along with her parents, son: Willard Jones, Jr. and siblings: Franklin R. Paylor, Reverend James Lewis Paylor, Hattie P. Garner, Mary Bell Torain, Eliza Snipes, Mary Jourdan and Lessie Virginia Snipes…oh how heaven rejoices.
