Margaret Lorene Malone Harris was born May 21, 1933 in Caswell County, to the late Mr. Coy Malone and Mrs. Lucy Florence Malone.
She was a lifelong devoted member Sweet Gum Grove Missionary Baptist Church. Baptized at an early age, Margaret served as a member of the Senior Choir (45 years), Youth Usher Board Advisor (35 years), Missionary Circle and the Charity Club. Service to the church by her was given with care and devotion to the well-being of all aspects of church duty.
After completing her high school education at Caswell County Training School, Margaret later moved to Burlington where she worked for a period of time at Love Hosiery Mill and later married her husband, Lemi Harris in 1961. Margaret also worked at Burlington Handbags and Tower Hosiery Mill in various capacities. She retired from Tower Hosiery Mill and helped her husband in a catering business. She was known to family and friends for her ability to cook which she learned as a young girl on the tobacco farm. Margaret is known for her sharing and caring heart in all aspects of her life. Whether you referred to Margaret as "wife", "mom", "grandma", "Aunt Margaret" or "Mrs. Harris", she would give love and cared about everyone. She was a gentle person but strong in her convictions and commitments to family, community and church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Lemi Harris, brothers: Ernest G. Malone and Weldon Malone and sister, Odell Poteat.
Margaret leaves to cherish her memories: son, Anthony Harris and daughter, Angelia Harris; grandchildren: Lauren Hughes, Amanda Hughes and Jared Hughes; sister-in-law: Maude M. Bonney as well as a host of nieces nephews other relatives and friends.
