Lamonte Powell Obituary

Mr. Lamonte Powell was born in Kittrell, North Carolina on February 28, 1964 and transitioned this life on April 3, 2021 at his residence.  Lamonte was the son of the late Theodore Alston and Virginia P. Moore.

Lamonte was reared in Burlington, NC and graduated from Walter Williams High School in 1982.  In high school, Lamonte excelled academically and on the football field.  He was a member of the undefeated 1980 and 1981 NC 3-A State Championship football teams where he was a captain and named Defensive Player of the Year his senior year.  In addition, he was an honor roll student and a member of the National Honor Society.

His faith in God was an important part of Lamonte’s life.  He was a devoted member of Mebane First Presbyterian Church as long as his health permitted. Lamonte was an ordained Elder and Deacon, the treasurer of the church, and a member of the building and grounds committee for many years.

However, the most important and special moments in Lamonte’s life were the birth of his two sons, Elliott and Evan.  He loved watching his children grow up and instilled in them the importance of faith and family.  Lamonte also passed along his love of football to his sons but required them to be on the honor roll if they wanted to play.
