James Edward Fonville

Mr. James Edward Fonville, son of the late Edward Loy Fonville and Ruvator Carter Russell was born in Alamance County, North Carolina on October 12, 1940. Tate’s precious son had arrived.At an early age his Mother decided she would move her children to New York. No matter what, Green Level, North Carolina was always “home” and he would return every summer to spend time with his Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles and Cousins. He always managed to get back to New York in time for the new school year where he graduated from White Plains High School, White Plains, NY. He worked for many years with “Sister” as Barbara Jean was affectionately called by him and his brother-in-law Frank in the Variety Shop. This was truly his passion. After many years he decided to become his own business proprietor in Greenburgh, New York. This was a joyous time for him but he could not stop longing for his family in North Carolina. He finally moved back to Green Level, North Carolina. He was able to start a lawn care business with his cousin William Fonville. It was hot and hard. He eventually decided to go to Burlington Industries where he retired.

James Edward had several passions. Fine cars, watching Me TV on Channel 1245 with a good old Western and he had his overall sense of humor. If you ever been around him for more than a few minutes he always had a comment and a joke about something. Eventually, you would just laugh with him. No matter what was going on the love for his Mother, Sister and family was his greatest passion. The love for them never left.

James Edward is survived by his children, Christopher Smith, Bridgette Fonville-Thompson (Min. Roland Thompson II), Keith D. Fonville and Todd M. Fonville, brother, Charles Fonville (Rosemary), sister, Fayedean Murray Anderson, brother in law Frank Bowens, 10 grandchildren, four of which grew up with him in North Carolina: Marcus, Breon, Szaire & Semaj Free. He has 21 great-grands along with a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

James Edward was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Min. Steve Fonville and his beloved sister, Barbara Jean Fonville Bowens.

On Tuesday, November 1, 2022 at 82 years old surrounded by his children and his devoted son-in-law, James Edward Fonville entered into eternal rest peacefully and with joy. He is home again.
