Mrs. Ivia Covington Benson was born March 25, 1926 in Alamance County to Mr. Samuel Covington and Mrs. Minnie Corbett Covington. She was graduate of Jordan Sellars High School and continued her education at Shaw University earning her Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economical Science. She also has received additional training in Social Work. She met and married the love of her life Mr. Robert L. Benson in 1956 and the two shared 51 years of wedded bliss. She was employed for over 30 years with the Philadelphia Department of Public Assistance and the Department of Child Welfare.
Spiritually, she was a member in her early years of Ebeneezer United Church of Christ, and later 2nd Baptist Church of Frankfurt, Pennsylvania. Following her retirement in 1998, she and Robert returned to Burlington, North Carolina and united with Arches Grove United Church of Christ where she served with the Missionary Society.
She leaves a loving and lasting memories to her sisters, Florine Covington Pollard and Aquanetta Covington as well as a host of nieces & nephews, cousins and friends.
She now is reunited with her loving husband Robert, her parents and her siblings Essue Covington, Benny Covington, Larry A. Covington, Vera Covington Davis and Nora Lee Covington Trollinger.
