Hiawatha Thompson, Jr. was born to Hiawatha Thompson, Sr. and Annie Jane Freeland Thompson in Alamance County, North Carolina on June 28, 1930. He was a graduate of the Alamance County School System and subsequently enrolled into the United States Army serving during the Korean War. He loved sharing his stories with his family regarding his tour in Korea. He was a Professional Truck Driver for Carolina Freight for a number of years until retirement. After his retirement he returned to the work force as a security guard for Walter Kidde and GE for several years. He was a member of Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church, serving as a Trustee. "HT" loved old Gospel Hymns and loved to dance to old school soulful sounds; 1960 Doo-Woop, which made him light on his feet, he also loved fine automobiles and maintaining an immaculate yard. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, neighbor and friend.
He leaves loving memories to his devoted wife: D. Laura Alston Thompson, of 66 blessed years; four children: Kenneth Thompson, Sandra Thompson, Norma Jean Weaver and Sharon Thorpe (Kevin); seven grandchildren: Kenny Thompson, Aimee Thompson, Rita Thompson, Jasmine Weaver, Kendal Thorpe, Kohl Thorpe and Robert Weaver, III; nine great-grandchildren; two siblings: Dr. John Thompson (Yvonne) and Sara Thompson Davis; in-laws: Hazel Wade Thompson, Rev. Jessie T. Alston, Sr. (Janice), Virginia A. Graves, Janet A. Ratliff, Annie Bernice Yarborough (James), Horace Alston (Fannie), Betty A. Holman (Rev. Donald) and Clyde Alston as well as many dear nieces and nephews other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Billy O'Keith Thompson and siblings: Arthur June Thompson, Ruth Thompson Albright, Betty Thompson Rogers, Mattie Thompson Coombs and Alice Thompson Little.
