Obituary

Henry Curtis Tinnin, affectionately known as “Curt”, was born on October 12, 1957, in Burlington NC to the late George William Currie and Annie Lee Tinnin. He transitioned from this life on April 21, 2023, in Stamford, CT. Curt attended Stamford Public Schools and is a graduate from Stamford High School. While a student at Stamford High Curt joined the Minority Student Union and played on the basketball team helping them to become runner up in the State Championship in 1977 After high school Curt attend Tunxis Community College in Farmington CT. While at Tunxis he played on the basketball team and was an integral part of the team that stopped Housatonic Community College 63 game winning streak, that same year Curt and his teammates won the Connecticut Community College Championship. Curtis began his employment with the Stamford Public School system in 1987 as a Security Guard.  In 1994 the Security Guard rallied for a union in which Curtis was head of Security at Stamford High School for 15 years.  In 1987 Curtis was recruited as the coach for the Freshman Boys Basketball Team and later became THE Head Coach for the Girls Basketball Team. Curtis served as Head Coach fir the girls from 1991 thru 2003 and again from 2007 thru 2011. In 2008 Curtis was named “FCIAC” Coach of the Year and later retired as the school’s all-time winning Coach with a record of wins, Doing the summer months for the last 30 years you could find Curt working with The Long Ridge Camp. Curtis started as an Assistant Counselor and later became the Head Counselor and serving as a Supervisor.  Curtis loved working at Long Ridge each summer, because it also gave him the opportunity and privilege to spend the summer months with his grandchildren, Curtis also loved the fact that the Alswanger’s family showed such kindness and love towards their employees.

Curtis was the most loving and affection person that you would ever want to meet. Curtis represented the good that we all need every day in our lives. He loved to have a good time and he loved his family unconditional,  

Curtis memories will forever be cherished by her surviving mother Annie Lee Tinnin of Burlington NC; his heart beat his, daughter Bianca “Carrie” Wilson; his pride and joy his two grandchildren: Emani Smalls and Christian “CB” Simmons all of Dorchester, South Carolina; his devoted, loving and faithful fiancee’: Jovanna “JoJo” Pearson of Stamford CT; three aunts: Lessie M. Hurdle of Burlington, NC and Betty L. Tinnin of Burlington NC, Ruthie Manley (JR) of Chapel Hill, NC; one great aunt: Mable Hester Pennix of Burlington NC; four brothers: , Alfred Currie (Teri) Eric Currie Sr. (Jerilynn) both of Burlington, NC, Lemuel Currie of Mebane NC Anthony Hurdle (Angela) of Burlington NC and ; seven sisters, Yvette Slade (Donald) of Burlington, NC, Michelle Daye of Burlington, NC, Darlene Currie of Burlington, NC, Sheryl Scoggins (Jerry) of Burlington, NC, Minster Tonya Brown of Greensboro, North Carolina, Reverend Shonette Pulliam Pettiford (Barry) of Greensboro, NC Shavonne Pulliam of Leasburg, NC; step-mother: Addie Currie of Leasburg, NC; one god daughter: Allanda Beckham; a special niece: Bri Martin of Stamford, CT.; an adopted daughter: Yondi J. Pettiford (Garson); five special brothers: Jimmy Fields, David Fields, Roderick Porter, William "Man" Porter and Michael Porter; three god-sisters: Nedra Bryant, Roshawn Bryant Milton and Dana BryantCurtis also leaves to cherish his memory a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and special friends. 

Curtis was preceded in death by his father George William Currie; maternal grandparents Tom and Lola Jones, Charlie and Lucille Tinnin, Paternal grandparents Jacob & Ruth Hester Currie; brother Varondia Tinnin; sister: Laurie Currie; niece: Nia Ray Daye, and brother-in-law:law Ray W. Daye.
