Mr. George Burnette Bowden Sr. 84 transitioned from labor to reward on October 10, 2021 at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill, NC. George was born to Albert Bowden and Tinnie Coble Bowden on May 1, 1937 in Chatham County.
George was blessed with the gift of ministering through song and used his gift serving the Mebane community singing with the Mebane Community Male Chorus where he also served as president. George was the type that never met a stranger and was known to his family and friends as one who enjoyed talking and fellowshipping with family and friends. He was a devoted disciple of Johnson's Chapel AME Church in Mebane, NC. George worked diligently and faithfully as a professional truck driver with ABF Trucking Company. He was married to Mrs. Christine Rogers Bowden for 52 year until her passing.
He leaves to cherish his memories his daughter Angela Bowden, sons, George “Bubby” Bowden Jr., Dexter Bowden (Evelyn), Lemont Bowden (Takesha); sisters Dorothy Curtis, Mildred Anderson, Lillian Flowers, Helen Mebane; brother Thomas Bowden (Lizzie); six grandchildren, three great grandchildren; brother-in-law: Alfred Rogers (Marlene) along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
George was preceded in death by his wife Christine R. Bowden; parents Albert and Tinnie Bowden, sister, Ruby Bowden; brothers, Paul “Ed” Bowden, Royzell “Easy” Bowden, Julius “Wolf” Bowden, James Everette “Sore Finger” Bowden and Ralph Bowden.
