Mrs. Fannie C. Pennix Lea was born June 27, 1932 in Caswell County. She entered into eternal peace on May 11, 2022 at 6:30 am at White Oak Manor Nursing Home in Burlington, NC. She was the third child born to the late Charlie and Ious Baynes Pennix. She grew up on the farm and understood the importance of family and hard work.
She worked many years at Alamance Regional Hospital in Burlington, NC until her retirement. She had a strong work ethic and enjoyed making her own money to buy what she wanted, especially those fabulous hats and matching suits. She will be remembered for her “sass” and sometimes “brass” personality, because she had no problem letting you know what she thought.
She was a faithful member of Sweet Gum Missionary Baptist Church where she served on the Usher Ministry and sang in the church choir until her declining health. She loved the church family and those in the Sweet Gum community doing what she could to assist those in need.
She married the love of her life Mitchell C. Lea who preceded her in death. She was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother. They were blessed with 2 sons, Mitchell C. Lea, Jr. (deceased) and Clyde W. Lea (deceased). She leaves to cherish memories 3 grandsons, Mattrick A. McCollum, George M. Lea and their mother and Deon Taylor. Also 3 sisters, Josephine Poole and Bessie Clemons of Mebane, NC and Queen Caudle of Washington, DC; 4 brothers, Willie T. Pennix of Rahway, NJ, Walter Pennix of Washington, DC, William Pennix (Thensa) and Larry Pennix (Iris) of Mebane, NC. A host of great grandchildren, neices, nephews and a special friend that was like a daughter to her Paula Pinnix of Burlington, NC.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, C. W. Pennix and one sister, Myrtle P. Mackey.
