Evelyn Janelle Brown McBroom the daughter of the late George Washington and Clarestine Mebane Brown, was born on September 12, 1940 in Alamance County. She departed this
earthly life on Monday, June 14, 2021 at AuthoraCare Collective of Alamance County. Janelle was educated in the Alamance County School System graduating in 1958 from Jordan Sellers High School, where she played clarinet in the marching band. Following high school, she was employed for 45 years at the Alamance County Hospital (now Cone Health Alamance Regional Medical Center) as a Lab Technician.
Janelle was married to Larry Chester McBroom for nearly 57 years. The Union enjoyed traveling to numerous places as long as her health permitted. Larry and Janelle enjoyed spending time with their children and grandchildren, and supported them in all their endeavors. Janelle was an avid sports fan, which included the Carolina Tarheels and The Dallas Cowboys.
Following retirement, Janelle found enjoyment in gathering with the Red Hat Society and the Retired Breakfast Club. Along with her social groups, she was an active member of Union Chapel United Church of Christ, where she served in numerous capacities. She enjoyed working for the Lord and helping all those she could.
Over the years, Janelle has overcome many obstacles in her life. When she was approximately 10 years old, she spent one year in the polio hospital in Greensboro, NC. Later in life, Janelle suffered a mild heart attack and breast cancer, where she drove herself personally to all her radiation treatments. Although she eventually succumbed after a brief illness, she was a valiant
warrior to the end. We are going to miss her warm smile, caring demeanor, stylish persona, and superb decorating
skills. In addition, we will miss her excellent cooking, especially her renowned Christmas cookies. Although she is no longer present, we have wonderful memories of the fantastic times we had together over the years and the phenomenal adventures we embarked upon.
Her life and legacy will forever be cherished by her loving husband, Larry C. McBroom; two sons, Brian K. McBroom and Brent A. McBroom; five grandchildren, LaTodd McBroom, Megan Vaughn, Michela Vaughn, Bryan Boswell “Luke”, Ryan Boswell; one great-grandchild, EmJay Vaughn; one brother, Ronald M. Brown (Odessa); three aunts, Lister B. Richmond (Douglas), Norris Brown, and Josephine B. Nichols; two special friends, Jean R. Paul and Ruthie C. Woods since the first grade.
In addition to her parents, Janelle was preceded in death by her parents and brother George W. Brown Jr.
