Evangelist Irene Blackwell Evans Farrington, 87 of Burlington, NC transitioned peacefully on Saturday, February 25, 2023 at the Alamance House. She was born to the late Albert "Link" Blackwell and the late Hallie Pennix Blackwell in Caswell County on December 14, 1935. Irene was a graduate of Jordan Sellars High School and attended North Carolina Central University. She worked for Star Foods for over 40 years until her retirement. In her later years after retirement she provided home healthcare for many elderly and disabled persons
On April 4, 1959 Irene married Mr. Jesse Evans. Irene found love again in Mr. Felix Farrington, they married in 1984. Both preceded her in death.
Evangelist Farrington was a faithful member of the New Covenant United Holy Church and for more than 50 years. Irene was a long-time member of the New Covenant Senior choir, and travel choir RBIFC. She loved visiting with the sick as a member of the New Covenant Missionary Circle praying with them and for them. She worked hard to ensure she was a faithful servant of the Lord.
Irene was affectionately known as the "funeral lady" If she knew you or someone related to you more than likely she was there! Before her health declined you could find her in the community at local churches being revived at a revival! When she couldn't be out and about any longer she made sure one of her daughters or grand-daughter turned on her "programs" church services virtually so she could still be in the midst! She never stopped praising and giving thanks to her savior. She loved to as she would say "larm" the room up in song! Most recently at the facilities, she was leading devotion and singing down the halls. She made sure to praise the Lord in whatever condition she was in.
She is survived by her daughters, Rita Evans and Nitasha Blackwell-White (Byron); brother Elder Larry Blackwell (Eula); grandchildren, Rianda Jeffries (William) and Daylin Crawford; great grandchildren, Khamani Jeffries and William F. Jeffries along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Irene was preceded in death by her parents, Albert "Link" and Hallie Blackwell; her husbands: Jesse Evans, Jr. and Felix Farrington; brothers, Lynn William Blackwell, Waddell "Joe" Blackwell, Eugene Blackwell, Rev. Delbert Blackwell, and Lonnie Blackwell along with two sisters, her twin Pauline B. Evans and Gladys B. Friday.
