Eula Mae (Mintz) Patterson Swann

Eula Mae Mintz Patterson Swann was born January 10, 1925, in Sumter, South Carolina to Willie Mintz and Ollie Mae Brigman Mintz. 

Following a period of illness and declining health, she quietly passed away on February 20, 2023, while being cared for by the staff of Alamance Healthcare Center, Burlington.

Upon her parents relocating to North Carolina, she completed her high school career at Graham High School, and she retired from LabCorp where she worked in the mail room for several years. 

Eula Mae “Granny” was a devoted and dedicated member of Rock Creek African Methodist Episcopal Church. She was a loving mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend who will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her. We’ll miss her warm hugs, friendly smile, delicious food (especially the cakes), positive attitude, and words of wisdom.

She leaves loving and lasting memories to her devoted daughter, Barbara Patterson Poteat and her husband Vernon; four grandchildren, Reverend Michael Patterson, his wife Penney Patterson, Roderick Poteat, his wife Bertha, Tabatha Poteat, and Terri Poteat; six great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; four sisters, Mary Mintz Ennon; Faye Garner Steward and her husband George; Stella Garner Fields and Portia Garner. Eula Mae also leaves a sister-in-law, Ella Ree Garner, and a host of nieces and nephews, relatives, and dear friends.   

In addition to her loving parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, June Swann, Elwood and Madge Patterson Garner, who reared Eula Mae and her siblings: Luther Mintz, Robert Mintz, Henry Mintz, Benjamin Mintz, Dwight Garner, Arnold “Jockey” Garner, Carrie Mintz Graves, Betty Mintz Scott, and Alvenia “Pete” Garner Holt.

The family extends special thanks to Community Hospice for their care and compassionate care towards our beloved Eula Mae Mintz Patterson Swann.
