On September 22nd, 1929, Edward Miles was born to Mr. Lewis Edward Miles and Mrs. Roxie Torain-Miles. Deacon Edward Miles was an Alamance County native, Korean War Veteran, North Carolina A&T graduate, entrepreneur, husband, father, long-time deacon of Miles Chapel Missionary Baptist Church.
On April 9th, 1955, Edward and Margie Magdalene Willis were joined in holy matrimony. Together, they raised two sons: Danny N. Miles and Irvin E. Miles of Burlington, NC. Over the course of their union, they cultivated over 50 years of love, faith, marriage, public service, and active community and church leadership. For over 40 years Deacon Edward Miles executed an intricate role in the fight for civil rights, justice, and equality in the African American community. He was a respected deacon, traveling choir member, and taught Sunday school at Miles Chapel Baptist Church. He served those roles with diligence and integrity while his health permitted.
On November 4th, 2022, with over 93 years of good fortune, well wishes, prayers, and acts of kindness, the Lord saw fit to give him rest from his labors.
He leaves to cherish his memory two sisters: Marie Miles-Willis and Sylvia Miles-Ervin. Two sons: Danny N. Miles and Irvin E. Miles. Two grandchildren: Jonathan L. Miles (Shannon) and J’Lisa D. Miles, and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three brothers: William Preston Miles (Mae), Kennis Miles (Jack), and Lewis Miles Jr. (Baby June)
