Quietly at midday on June 30, 2020, our beloved Doris Jean (Garrison) Clapp entered her heavenly home while in the care of the Beacon Place Palliative Care in Greensboro, North Carolina.
Doris was born on June 5, 1936 to the union of the late Elbert and Mary Jane Garrison. She was educated in Alamance County School System and graduated from Graham High School in 1956. Her aspiration to become a beautician was achieved upon graduating from Maco Beauty College of North Carolina. Thereafter, her career initially began working with a salon on Rauhut Street migrating to a home salon for over 40 years. Approaching retirement, she was trained as CNA and worked at Alamance Regional Hospital and Edgewood Manor.
Doris accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of Mack’s Chapel United Holy Church in Altamahaw, NC. She later attended New Covenant United Holy Church in Burlington, NC for many years. She held fast to her faith in God, listening to sermons and church services and gospel music on the radio and tv.
Throughout the years, she continued to serve her Glen Raven community in many ways while her health permitted. Doris loved baking, crafting, sewing and most of all cultivating in her rose garden with her extraordinary green thumb. Doris also enjoyed hosting bible study in her home and entertaining. She never met a stranger, she embraced those encountered with the love of God.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Harvey Boyce Clapp, two brothers, Bobby Garrison and Odell (Pap) Garrison and two sisters, Mrs. Thelma Troxler and Blanche Garrison.
Doris leaves to cherish fond memories, her daughter, Katanja M. Clapp of Greensboro, NC, one sibling, Patricia Diane Miles (Monroe) of Burlington, NC, a sister-in-law Emma Jean Garrison of Graham, NC and a host of family and friends. She also leaves a bonus daughter, Sherrie Starkey Graham (James) , two bonus grandchildren, Travis and J’Neice Starkey, one bonus great-grandson AJ of Greensboro, NC.
