Mrs. Doris Poteat Bowes was born to the late Thomas and Lottie Poteat on November 26, 1945. She departed from this earthly home on November 12, 2020 after a battle with cancer. She was preceded in death by her son Raymond Thompson Jr., siblings Calvin Poteat and Eunice Moore. She retired from Copeland Fabrics after 30 years of service, she continued to work for Walmart until her health began to decline. Doris was a faithful member of New Covenant Holiness Church where she served as a Missionary in the Circle #1. Doris was a 1964 graduate of Central High School in Graham, NC.
Doris was affectionately known as Babe, Bae, Ma or Mommie depending on whom she was speaking with. She was loved dearly by her family and friends, she never met a stranger and this is why she loved working at Walmart. Doris loved to work in her flowers and in her garden for as long as she was able to.
She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Mr. DeWayne Bowes, daughters, Betty Thompson-(Terry) Kearse and Jeannette Thompson, son, Antony (Shayla) Bowes, step-daughter, Anina Williams; 5 grandchildren, Matthew Thompson, Brandon Kearse, Sahar Randolph-Bowes, Tia Mathes and Brian Williams and 2 great grandchildren, Na’zir Thompson and Madison Williams; nephews, Stanley Moore, Rodric Moore and Robert Moore, Jr. along with a host of cousins and dear friends.
