Doris Jean (Michael) Bigelow

Doris Jean Michael Bigelow, age 86, of Burlington, NC transitioned from labor to reward on Tuesday November 2, 2021 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on October 10, 1932 to Russell Michael and Ludie Tyner Michael in Alamance County. 

Doris was educated at Sedalia High School and graduated as the salutatorian. Doris was a devoted and faithful member of First Baptist Church on Apple Street. She was a supervisor at American Multimedia, Inc before she retired. She loved her word searches, puzzles and showing everyone why she was the Queen in the kitchen. Most importantly she loved her family with her whole heart and enjoyed being a wife, mother and grandmother more than anything in this world.  

She is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, John Oscar Bigelow. Their union was blessed with two daughters who carry on her legacy, Laura Christie Bigelow of the home and Cynthia Lynn Squires(Barry) of Greenville, NC; 4 grandchildren Mione Necole Bigelow-Gidron(Antwan) of High Point, NC, and Cecori Fené Squires of Yokosuka, Japan and twin grandsons Barry McKensi Squires, Jr. of Chapel Hill, NC and Bryan McKane Squires of Tallahassee, FL; 5 great-grandchildren Jon Alan Michel Bigelow, Zahkari Antwan Gidron, Khamani AnJea Gidron, Jh’Kai Thomas Gidron and Zuri Sanaá LaNé Gidron. 

She is also survived her brother John Michael(Mildred) of Gibsonville, NC; sisters, Kathleen Owens and Alma Chrisp both of Greensboro, NC and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will miss her deeply.  

She was preceded in death by her parents Russell and Ludie Michael and her sister, Patricia Ann Michael.
