Obituary

After an extended illness, during the early morning hours of July 3rd, 2020, Mrs. Delois “Lois” Walker Johnson, age 89, went home to be with the Lord. Born in Orange County on April 3, 1931, Lois or Dee, as she was affectionately known, was the daughter of the late Harley G. Walker and Viola Elizabeth Fuller Walker.  She was raised and educated in Orange County and later moved to Mebane, North Carolina, where she married the late Thomas A. Johnson.

You could never find a person with a bigger heart than Lois.  She always had a ready smile for everyone she met.  Her cooking was legendary throughout the Mebane, NC area.  If you were hungry or just in need of good conversation she always had an available seat at her table.  And, if you were lucky you might just get a taste of her famous potato salad, chicken pie or sweet potato casserole…not to mention her homemade lemonade.  Lois truly loved her family and friends and never hesitated to let them know.  Up until the point that she was no longer able, she enjoyed daily phone conversations with her sisters.   She especially loved visiting with her family and had a special place in her heart for her grandchildren and great grandchildren…making sure that she always had pictures at the ready to show to her friends.

She professed her faith in Jesus Christ and was a member of Mebane First Presbyterian Church, where she attended as long as her health permitted.

She is predeceased by her husband, Thomas A. Johnson, her parents Harley G. Walker and Viola Elizabeth Fuller Walker, her sisters, Alberta Walker Cobb, Hattie Walker Vinson and Doris W. Jones, her brother, Ronald C. Walker, her aunts Ida Walker Simpson and Leona Walker Cobb; her grandson, Jordan Vinson Gibbs and granddaughter, Arnette Walker.  Her life and legacy will be forever cherished in the hearts of her children:  Danny Lee Walker (Patsy) of Mebane, NC; Eric Walker (Leslie) of Mebane, NC; Vanessa Hunter (Roosevelt) of Rocky Mount, NC; Benita Walker Gibbs (Tony) of Apex, NC ; her 8 (eight) grandchildren Gerald Walker (Chrishaun), Robbin Walker, Davan Holt (Regina), Dustin Holt (Wendy), Morgan Sobin (Zack), Brandon Gibbs, Erica Walker and Marquis Staton ; 10 (ten) great grandchildren; 1 (one) great great grandchild;  her siblings ; Lavonne W. Springs (John), of Efland, NC; Sylvia W. Johnson (Phil) of Woodbridge, VA, Barbara W. Swann (Lanier Sr.) of Burlington, NC, Harley M. Walker (Earlene) of McLeansville, NC and brother in law, Thomas O. Vinson.  She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, grandnieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
