Deacon George L. Woods, Sr. was born in Caswell County, NC to Rev. Spencer E. Woods and Mrs. Georgianna Currie Woods. He was married to Mrs. Irene Harrison Woods and Mrs. Margaret Gary Woods. He was a 1944 graduate of Caswell County Training School as well as North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. He resided in New York for over 40 years where he was employed with Curtis Wright, an Airplane Engine manufacturer, where he was a Supervisor. He retired in 1988 and returned to his home, Leasburg. He was a devoted Deacon of Allen’s Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, a member and Past Worshipful Master of Allen’s Lodge #676 PHA F&AM, and a beloved radio announcer with WYNC 1540 Yanceyville.
He leaves loving and lasting memories to his three children: Charlene Woods Bazemore, George L. Woods, II and Zandria Woods Fedrick (Ronnie); two grandchildren: Lajuana Woods Hodge and George L. Woods, III; six great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; four siblings: Ruth Woods Thaxton, Ida Woods Pulliam, Reverend Philip J. Woods (Claudia) and Larry B. Currie as well as several nieces & nephews, other relatives and dear friends.
In addition to his parents and wives, he was preceded in death by his son-in-law: Ronald K. Bazemore; grand-son-in-law Alvito LaRay Hodge; and three siblings: Willie Q. Woods, Valoyce Woods Surgeon and Pryor Currie.
