Betty Neal-Johnson Obituary

Betty Evenlyn Lee Johnson, daughter of the late Gilda and Catherine Lee was born 18 July 1941 in Hurdle Mills, North Carolina.  She departed her earthly life on 12 September 2022 at her home in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Betty graduated from Pleasant Grove Union School class of 1959.  After graduating she worked in textile and the health care industry for many years. She retired from Dana Yarn in 2007.

To strengthen her foundation Betty dedicated her life to God, she was a faithful member of White Oak Grove Baptist Church.  She knew when she joined church it was time to go work, wherever help was needed she jumped right in. She was the Church secretary, a member of the usher board, a Deaconess, and head of the Kitchen committee.  She was truly a humble servant of God.

Betty had a beautiful personality, a loving and caring spirit and a heart that welcomed everyone in.  It did not matter where she was at, she never met a stranger.  Everyone was her family, and she was loved by all.  If you needed advice, a shoulder to cry on, or just to lend an ear she was there. She was an amazing woman with a golden heart and a smile that could light up any room. When faced with life challenges Betty could make you laugh in the midst of it all. Betty was the life of the family gathering; she was there with her quirky jokes and childhood stories and her great dance moves.

Betty was a sports fanatic, she was a diehard UNC Tarheel fan for sure but the other sports she would never dedicate herself to one team, she always chose the team who won the game. She played softball in her youth and was also a cheerleader.

Betty was an excellent cook, and she ran the Church kitchen like a champ but to say she enjoyed cooking would be a stretch, but she enjoyed watching people enjoy her food. She loved having family around her and she knew food would always get them there.

Love ones who will cherish her memories are her loving husband: Leon Johnson; their children: William Bryson (Robin), Timothy Bryson (Nikki), Kenny Jones, Leon Johnson Jr., Carlos Johnson and Angela Hamilton (Darryl), Wenona Stanfield; two siblings: Alvis Ray Lee (Phyllis), and Ruthie Williams; brother in-law: Walter Miles, Daris Johnson (Ava) and Leonard Johnson (Julia), sister in-law Wyvonne Lee, Rosallene Massey, Patricia Crawford, and Angela Denmark; two aunts Bertha Villines and Juanita Torain; 18 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren as well as a host of nieces and nephew, other relatives and dear friends.

In addition to her parents, she now joins her daughter: Donna, siblings Roena Lee, Roland Lee, Cleveland W. Lee, James G. Lee, Jerry D. Lee, Kerry D. Lee, Sr. Mary Christine Lee Miles, and Alice Mae Wiley.
