Mrs. Verla Mae Guthrie Jeffries also known as Burt was born on April 18, 1942. She was one of the three daughters of the late Mr. Coley Guthrie and Mrs. V. She attended school in the Graham North Carolina. She was a 1960 graduate of Graham High School. Mrs. Verla Mae Guthrie Jeffries has been married to Larry A. Jeffries for 35 years. She retired from the Alamance in Burlington School system. After her retirement she would occasionally substitute for the school system.
She was a lifelong faithful and active member of Wayman Chapel A.M.E. Church. She enjoyed gathering and displaying black history for the church during Black History Month. She was also a missionary and a former YPD Leader. She was an active member of the Women of Destiny as well as the Democratic Women. She was a member of Club 60 of Graham High School. She enjoyed her membership always showing great joy and pleasure in there many travels and events.
She loved crafts collecting frog decorations and she was a true fan of the Carolina Panthers. She took pride in decorating the Jeffries home for each and every holiday and season. Some of her other passions were attending family gatherings and events.
Mrs. Verla Mae Guthrie Jeffries entered into eternal rest on September 20, 2019. She leaves behind her husband Larry A. Jeffries; daughter: Erika M. Fowler of Burlington; three sons: Reynaldo Jeffries (Gwen) and Bradley Jeffries (Sandra) all of Burlington, NC and Kenneth Jeffries (Lori) of Mebane, NC; two sisters: Zelma Valentine of Whitsett and Beverly Davis (Rev. Garcia) of McCleansville; four granddughters- the loves of her life: Derika Fowler, Victoria and Bridgett Jeffries and Kortney Williams; a grandson: Robert A. Williams, Jr.; great-granddaughter: Naziya; three great-gransons: Cameron, Keyon and Jessie; three nieces: Pamela Johsnon (Jeffrey), Sandra Valentine and Victoria Jones; a host of great nieces & nephews and one great-nephew whom she cherished, Blair Robert Jones-Price, as well as many dear cousins including a cherished cousin, who was more like a brother, Herbert Thomas Reaves and friends.
