Ophelia Gertrude Williams Hill Diggs, age 70, passed away following a long-term illness on Feb. 21, 2019. She was born October 21, 1948 in High Point, North Carolina to the late Raymond P. Williams, Sr. and the late Willie Mae Hairston Williams. Ophelia was also preceded in death by her brother Vernon A. Williams.
Ophelia spent her entire life in High Point, NC and attended Florence Elementary School, as well as William Penn High School. She continued her education at NC A and T State University majoring in Business Administration and graduated Magna Cum Laude. After college, Ophelia was employed by Burlington Industries in accounting for 10 years. She worked in several fields and eventually retired in the retail industry. Ophelia was devoted to her family and was a caregiver for her Aunt Mae for many years. She was a faithful member of Williams Memorial CME Church for over twenty years until the time of her death.
Ophelia is survived by her only child, Sharon (Will) Hill Bailey and her grandchildren, Alana Goodman and Chase McLaughlin of Greensboro, NC. She is also survived by her siblings, Raymond P. Williams, Jr. of Reidsville, NC., Juanita (Eddie) Foxx of Saginaw, MI, Virginia (Lloyd) Nance of Jacksonville, FL, Wayne M. Williams of High Point, NC., and one sister-in-law Deborah (Bill) Williams Banks, Virginia Beach, VA.
Ophelia also leaves behind her nieces and nephews, Christopher Foxx of Saginaw, MI, Yvonne (Will) Lash of Flat Rock, MI, Lesley Foxx of Saginaw, MI, Lisa (Tomac) Scott of Port St. Lucie, FL, Liane (Joel) Menendez of Jacksonville, FL, Lorie (Eddie) Larkins of Chesapeake, VA, Lloyd V. Nance of Seattle, WA, Verniqueca Williams of Woodbridge, VA and Devern (Adrianne) Williams of Grape Vine, TX and a host of other family and friends.
