Mertis (Cheely) Wilson

During the early morning of Sunday, December 16, 2018, God looked down at Liberty Commons Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and saw one of his precious souls was tired.  Upon checking his record, He saw that her work was done and sent an angel to carry her soul home.  

Mrs. Mertis Cheely Wilson, daughter of Reverend James Thomas Cheely and Effie Anna Jordan Cheely was born on December 14, 1939 in Warrenton, Georgia, where she was reared and educated.  She accepted Christ as her personal Savior and joined William Grove Baptist Church at an early age.  

Later in life she moved to Atlanta, Georgia and then chose to reside and settle in Burlington, NC permanently.  Possessing multiple talents, skills and gifts, she strives to utilize them to the best of her abilities by acquiring specific educational requirements in order to make a difference within the community.  

Mertis focused on Cosmetology at Jordan Sellars Senior High School Industrial Education Center.  She also received her Certified Nurse’s Assistant Degree from ACC which granted her the opportunity to open Venturi Family Care, Vic’s Family Care and VV&E Family Care.  In 1989 she opened C&M Adult Care Home.  She also was received education at Pinnacle Maranatha Bible College.  

Mertis was married to Eddie Hubert Wilson and to this union two children were born: Barry & Coretta.  

Survivors include: her former husband and forever friend: Eddie H. Wilson; two children: Barry V. Wilson and Coretta R. Wilson; 4 grandchildren: Emory Wilson (LaShaunda), Venturi Wilson, Victavious Wilson and Page Tinnin; step-son: Dexter O. Tinnin; four sisters: Catherine Scott (Ezzell), Jensie McConico (Paul), Mable Morse and Carolyn Willis; special friend and daughter-in-law: Yvette Bynum Wilson as well as a host of nieces & nephews other relatives and dear friends.
