Mother Mary Magdalene Allison Byrd was born April 14, 1928 in Burlington, North Carolina. She was the 4th child born to the late Augusts E. Allison and Hattie Mozelle Booker Allison. She was preceded in death by five siblings: Luther Allison, Augustus Junior Allison, Elizabeth "Sis" Horton, William "WH" Allison and Helen Allison. Mary graduated from the Della Plane School and completed her LPN degree at the Community College of Alamance.
She accepted Christ as her personal Savior at a young age and was a member of Maple Grove Missionary Baptist Church, where she served in numerous capacities: Sunday School Teacher, Sunday School Secretary, Usher, Advisor to the Junior Usher Board, Advisor to the Sunshine Choir, Senior Choir and Mass Choir. Within the community she was involved with the Friendship Club and sang with the United Ladies Chorus.
She was employed by Macfield for many years. Our loving Mother, Grandmother and friend, Mary Magdalene Allison Byrd made her peaceful transition from Earth to Glory on Sunday evening, September 16, 2018 at Cone Health-Alamance Regional Medical Center.
She is survived by her five children: Margielene Harrelson (Curtis), Ponzella Turner (Lamont), Randolph Byrd, Jeannette Browning (Vernon Keith) and Minister Claudia Byrd-Day; 15 grandchildren: Roy Nathan Shaw, Jr. "Shorty", Marlon Brown "Tinsey" (Nyzanta), LaTosha Owens (Terry), Larissa Holt, Makeisha Byrd, Clifton Gray, Jessica Campbell (Shannon), Eric Devon Day (Lauryn), Jasmine Gray, Alyvia Rollinson (Darren "TJ"), Desi Crisp, Antonio Trollinger, Lamont Turner, Jr., Corey Turner and Neal Turner; 21 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; god-son: Dr. John P. Henry, Jr. (Carissa) as well as host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
