Deacon Joe Clark Clayton, Sr., 76 of 4353 Rone Rd. transitioned on August 21, 2017.

Survivors include: his wife: Apostle Nancy Rone Clayton; four children: Rev. Joe C. Clayton, Jr., Anthony Clayton, (Maria), Rev. Candle Hughes and Trina Clayton; five siblings: Albert T. Clayton (Bernice), James Lewis Clayton, Ann Louise Briggs, Katie Clayton Robertson (Lloyd) and Dollie Poteat (Henry); 11 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by his parents: Speck Clayton & Laura Snipes Clayton Briggs and siblings: William Clayton, Henry Clayton, John Clayton, Nathan Clayton, Bedford Clayton, James Clayton, Horace Clayton, Bettie Clayton and Hallie Clayton.  

He was a member of Hester's Grove Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon.  He retired from Copeland Fabrics after 30 years of service. After retirement he held several jobs including the Times-News and was currently the Building Manager of Edwin M. Yoder Elementary School.
