The Reverend Herman Albert Lea, 66 transitioned in his home on November 17, 2017. He was the son of Mr. Charlie Junior Lea and Mrs. Sallie Allen Lea both deceased.

He was a 1969 Caswell County High School graduate and attended Danville Community College and was a graduate of the Cedar Grove Prophet’s School and received his Bachelors and Master’s Degree from Jacksonville Theological Bible Seminary.

He was a member of River Zion Baptist Church. Prior to accepting the call into the ministry and being ordained and licensed on May 5, 1996, he served 17 years as a Deacon for 17 years serving terms as Chairman, Vice Chairman and Secretary for the board.  He was Superintendent of the Sunday School for 10 years, Senior Usher Board Chaplain and was a teacher for the youth and adult classes.  He was instrumental in starting the Noonday Prayer at the church.  He was formerly the Christian Education Director, Chairman of the RZBC Scholarship Committee and the Cedar Grove Minister & Deacons Union.

He retired from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. after 37 years of dedicated service.  During his years of service, he founded the Sunday Morning Praise Service at Goodyear.  Civically he was a member of the Executive Board of Murphy and Oakwood Elementary Schools Parent Teacher Associations, Vice President of the Oakwood Elementary PTA, Caswell County PTA Advisory Board, Midget League Football Assistant Coach, United Steel Workers Union #831, Caswell County Branch NAACP and the Community Christian Ministry Outreach.

Survivors include his wife: Elsie Ferrell Lea, children: Deva A. Lea, Cherie Lea, Ker’Chad Lea (Krystal), Arthur Jeffers, Jr. “AJ” and Quiana Jeffers; 5 grandchildren: DayShun Bigelow, JaKada Lea, Kiyonna Lea, Ker’Trell Lea and Ker’Male Lea and 3 siblings: Charlie Lea (Julia), Marvin Lea (Gwen) and Belinda Wimbush (Arthur); devoted brother and sister in Christ: Deacon Ervin Farmer (Janie) along with many nieces, nephews,4 brothers-in-law, 7 sisters-in-law, other relatives and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by a brother Jerry W. Lea.
